Socially-distant opportunities for your child to enhance their Waldorf education. Open to anyone and everyone (not just BWS students), so please invite your friends. Some are even open to or designed for grownups.

Storytime and Yoga/Movement with Ms. Jenn

Ages: Children ages 3 (Nursery) through Grade One

Schedule: Meets Monday-Friday, 10:00 – 10:30am

Dates: Monday, July 6th – Friday, July 31st

Price: $180 per student

Minimum Enrollment: 5 Students

Come join Ms. Jenn from our Early Childhood program for a daily dose of storytime and gentle yoga-based movement. Children ages 3 (Nursery) through Grade One will enjoy this time to see friends, listen to stories, and get their body moving in a way that builds strength, confidence, and balance. Register here.

Intermediate/Advanced Mandarin with Ms. Xue

Ages: Grades 6-8

Schedule: Tuesday/Thursday, 10:00-10:45am

Dates: Tuesday, July 7th – Thursday, July 30th

Price: $220 per student

Minimum Enrollment: 3 Students

Join Ms. Xue, our Mandarin teacher, for time dedicated to strengthening students’ Mandarin skills through story-telling, acting, and debate. Through regular practice over the summer in a playful, dynamic online environment, students can consolidate their Mandarin skills so they can eventually enter high school with a strong foundation. Business Mandarin for Parents! With Ms. Xue

Ages: Adults

Have you ever wanted to learn some basic Mandarin for business settings? Now’s the chance to dive in! Ms. Xue is offering BWS parents a chance to learn some basics of spoken Mandarin.  Whether you’d like to connect with your child’s experience of Mandarin, or learn some useful phrases for your work life (or both!), this class will be a fun way to spend time with other parents and develop new skills. Mx. Monika’s Neighborhood

Ages: All ages

Schedule: Wednesdays and Fridays, 12:00pm

Dates: Wednesday, July 8th – Wednesday, July 31st

Price: $60 per student

Do you and your child love Mx. Monika’s Neighborhood? Would you like to keep up with new episodes? Register for the four new summer installments of our beloved nursery teacher’s warm, gentle show about friends, family, and, well…our neighborhood. And for those of you who have never had the pleasure of seeing an episode, think Mr. Rogers meets Bed-Stuy with a Waldorf twist, and you’ve got the idea. Additionally, Mx. Monica will read four short audio stories. Once released, all materials for this class will be available to watch for the duration of the course at your convenience.  Register here.

Introduction to the Music of the African Diaspora with Mr. Franklin and Mr. Elé

Ages: Grades 3 and older, parents and siblings

Schedule: Tuesday and Thursdays, 12:00 – 1:00pm

Dates: Tuesday, July 7th – Thursday, August 6th

Price: $200 per student

Minimum Enrollment: 7 Students

The class will introduce students grades 3 and up, as well as any interested siblings and parents, to the evolution of contemporary American music from the perspective of its African musical roots. We’ll explore five genres of music from a historical, cultural, and musical point of view. Students will have the opportunity to engage with the coursework through the lens of their instrument, learning new genre-specific techniques throughout the program. Students will learn a piece of music from each genre and finish the program with three collaborative video performances. (Siblings younger than third grade should be accompanied by a parent.) Songwriting Circle with Mr. Franklin

Ages: Adults, grades 7 and up

Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:00 – 4:00pm

Dates: Monday, July 5th – Wednesday, August 5th

Price: $200 per student

Minimum Enrollment: 4 Students

Songwriting Circle is an introductory forum-style class for budding and experienced songwriters. The course will provide an overview of music and lyric-writing techniques, assignments to start/build your original music catalog, and a space to share work for constructive feedback. Summer Test Prep with Mr. Kannan

Ages: Rising 8th graders

Schedule: Tuesdays, times vary, 1 hour per session

Dates: Tuesday, July 7th – Tuesday, August 11th 

Price: $625 per student

Working one-on-one or in small groups with 7th graders, Mr. Kannan will tutor students in Math, Reading Comprehension, or both.  Register for one or both sections, depending on your child’s needs. Register here.

Introduction to Marine Wildlife and Conservation Science with Mr. Elé

Ages: Grades 5-8

Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursday, 12:00 – 1:00pm

Dates: Tuesday, July 7th – Thursday, August 6th

Price: $200 per student

Minimum Enrollment: 4 Students

Join Mr. Elé as he shares his passion for Marine Biology! Students in grades 5-8 explore the diverse and incredible world of marine life through group discussions, presentations, videos and group projects.  This course serves as a basic introduction to the subject and encourages continued individual research. Through discussion and collaboration students will learn about the threats facing our waters and adjacent coasts, explore solutions for conservation, and discover the organization and development of living organisms in each habitat covered. Classes will meet twice a week with the first class of the week introducing a topic and developing a small at-home project. The second class will be a time for questions, discussion, and weekly presentations. Families should have access to a printer, as well as paper and colored pencils. Register here.

Story, Puppet, and Song Time with Ms. Jay

Ages: Kindergarten – Grade 2

Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 11:00 – 11:45am

Dates: Monday, July 6th – Friday, July 24th

Price: $120 per student

Minimum Enrollment: 5 Students

Come read stories and sing along with Ms. Jay!  Using found objects from around the home, children in Kindergarten through second grade will make their own instruments and craft puppets to supplement their story and singing time with our gifted choral teacher Jayanthi Bunyan. Capoeira with Mr. Curu

Ages: All ages (students and parents)

Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 1:30 – 2:30pm

Dates: Monday, July 6th – Friday, July 31st

Minimum Enrollment: 5 Students

Capoeira returns to BWS to welcome you to a summer of roda (circle), birimbau (lead string instrument), and aú (cartwheel). Capoeira is a lively, spontaneous physical practice that combines martial arts, dance and acrobatics. We are fortunate to deepen our Waldorf curriculum with the wisdom of this unique body-mind practice. Maestre (Professor) Eder “Curu” Souza of Raízes do Brasil started practicing Capoeira at the age of 11 and has played in rodas around the world. Register here.
