Thank you for supporting the Brooklyn Waldorf School
The Brooklyn Waldorf School is a vibrant community of individuals strengthened and bound together by its mission to provide excellent Waldorf education in Brooklyn and to nurture and shape the next generation of thinkers, creators and leaders for our world. The generous gifts of all sizes that we receive from our extended community enable us to grow our programs, reinforce our infrastructure, enhance faculty benefits, and reaffirm our commitment to build socioeconomic diversity in our school. You make it all possible.
We thank you for taking the time to think about how you can support the Brooklyn Waldorf School, and we invite you to explore the many ways to give here.
The Annual Fund is the single most important fundraising activity for our School each year, as it helps bridge the gap between tuition revenue and the ever-increasing costs of operating our School. Make an immediate impact by making your tax-deductible gift to the Annual Fund by check or credit card.
In addition to current, outright gifts to the Brooklyn Waldorf School, you can set up recurring monthly or yearly gifts of any amount. You can also pledge to make a gift at a later date.
To set up an installment gift or make a pledge, please contact Annie Ng at (718) 622-4249 ext. 210 or [email protected].
Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match any charitable contributions made by their employees. This could result in your gift being doubled (or even tripled)! If your company matches gifts, simply request the appropriate form from your employer, complete it and send it in with your gift. We will take care of the rest! If you aren’t sure whether your employer offers a matching gift program, ask your Human Resources department.
For more information about employer matching gifts, please contact Annie Ng at (718) 622-4249 ext. 210 or [email protected].
Making a gift of appreciated stock is one of the most tax-efficient ways to make a charitable donation to the Brooklyn Waldorf School. When you make a gift of appreciated stock to a qualified charity, you may realize valuable tax benefits, including:
- Income Tax Savings: If you have held the stock for more than one year and you itemize deductions, you will receive an income tax deduction for the full value of the gifted stock at the time of transfer.
- Avoidance of Capital Gains Tax: Since the stock is donated rather than sold, capital gains taxes from selling the securities no longer apply.
If you would like to make a gift of stock to the Brooklyn Waldorf School, or have questions about gifts of publicly traded stock, please contact Denese Giordano, at (718) 622-4249 ext. 244 or [email protected], or Yvonne Perez-Zarraga at [email protected].
If you are age 70 ½ or older, you can now direct your IRA (Individual Retirement Account) plan administrator to make a distribution directly to the Brooklyn Waldorf School. Distributions made directly from an IRA to a charitable organization are excluded for income tax purposes and also count toward your annual required minimum distribution, making it a win-win for you and our school!
In addition, you may wish to name the Brooklyn Waldorf School as a beneficiary of your retirement account at the time of your death. Doing so provides your estate with a full charitable deduction for the amount contributed and allows you to maximize funds that you may wish to leave to other beneficiaries. To make BWS a partial (1-99 percent), whole or contingent beneficiary of your retirement account, simply complete a beneficiary designation form with the administrator of your retirement plan.
If you have questions about IRA charitable gifts, or need assistance completing a beneficiary designation form, please contact Denese Giordano, at (718) 622-4249 ext. 244 or [email protected], or Yvonne Perez-Zarraga at [email protected].
Making a bequest to the Brooklyn Waldorf School through your will or trust is a simple, yet powerful, way to make a lasting impact on the future of our school. Bequests enable you to make a significant contribution to our school without drawing on your current assets, and are fully tax-deductible for estate tax purposes.
Even if you have an existing will, you can add an amendment, or codicil, at any time. Since a codicil does not replace the original will, it can be an inexpensive way to make a bequest to BWS. Your lawyer or advisor can help arrange a bequest to the school, and we are happy to coordinate with him or her, if desired, to effectuate your wishes.
If you have made, or wish to make, a provision for BWS in your will or trust, or have any questions about doing so, please contact Denese Giordano, at (718) 622-4249 ext. 244 or [email protected], or Yvonne Perez-Zarraga at [email protected].
The Brooklyn Waldorf School is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. All charitable gifts to BWS are tax-deductible. EIN: 80-0329417
