Volunteering

Part of what sets the BWS community apart is parent involvement. Whether it be during our annual Winter Fair, as a Class Representative, Board Member, committee member, or Parent Association Chair, our parent body is deeply involved in the work we do for our children’s benefit. If you’d like to get involved but don’t know how, ask your class representative.

Giving

Annual Fund – As the single most important fundraising activity for our school, the Annual Fund helps bridge the gap between tuition revenue and the ever-increasing costs of operating our school. Make an immediate impact by making a tax-deductible gift to the Annual Fund by check or credit card. Read more about the Annual Fund here: Annual Fund FAQ

Installment Gifts & Pledges – To set up a recurring monthly or yearly gift for any amount, or pledge to make a gift at a later date, please contact the Business Office at (718) 783-3270 ext. 210 or cmcbeth@brooklynwaldorf.org.

Employer Matches – Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match any charitable contributions made by their employees. This could result in your gift being doubled (or even tripled)! If your company matches gifts, simply request the appropriate form from your employer, complete it, and send it in with your gift. For more information about employer matching gifts, please contact the Business Office at (718) 783-3270 ext. 210 or cmcbeth@brooklynwaldorf.org.

Gifts of publicly traded stock – Making a gift of appreciated stock is one of the most tax-efficient ways to make a charitable donation to the Brooklyn Waldorf School. If you would like to make a gift of stock to the Brooklyn Waldorf School, or have questions about gifts of publicly traded stock, please contact businessoffice@brooklynwaldorf.org.

IRA Charitable Gifts – If you are age 70 ½ or older, you can now direct your IRA (Individual Retirement Account) plan administrator to make a distribution directly to the Brooklyn Waldorf School. Distributions made directly from an IRA to a charitable organization are excluded for income tax purposes and also count toward your annual required minimum distribution, making it a win-win for you and our school!

In addition, you may wish to name the Brooklyn Waldorf School as a beneficiary of your retirement account at the time of your death. Doing so provides your estate with a full charitable deduction for the amount contributed and allows you to maximize funds that you may wish to leave to other beneficiaries. To make BWS a partial (1-99 percent), whole or contingent beneficiary of your retirement account, simply complete a beneficiary designation form with the administrator of your retirement plan.
