HomeSchool 2011-2012

The Brooklyn Waldorf School is happy to announce the continuation of our homeschooling program. The program offers enrichment programs for children who are homeschooled. An option for Waldorf inspired HomeSchool parents, the program includes subjects and activities that are typically found in Waldorf schools, such as watercolor painting, singing, beeswax modeling, and arts integrated learning.

It combines the artistic experience innate to the Waldorf approach to education to language arts and social studies, movement and foreign language classes. Students experience Spatial Dynamics, story telling, and painting in a warm and welcoming environment suited for a variety of ages.

In order to provide age appropriate activities the program is divided into two groups: Young HomeSchoolers (for children 6.5-9 years of age), and Upper Grades HomeSchoolers (for children 9.5-12 years of age). Both groups meet once a week.

As HomeSchooling parents are very involved in their children’s education, we also offer an adult program on Thursday afternoons. In the past, programs included a “Biography Workshop” with Signe Schaefer and “Plant Dyeing and the Seven Life processes” led by Val Mello and Sono Kuwayama. HomeSchool parents can also engage in handwork and other activities run by parents during the day. Because they are an integral part of the school community, they also participate in all school events, including our always memorable Winter Fair.

The Younger HomeSchoolers Program (30 weeks)

The Younger HomeSchoolers Program is for children between the ages of 6.5 and 9, and will meet on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. We will begin in a circle with a warm and wonderful Waldorf teacher who will lead them on a journey of imagination and wonder. The children will spend the morning in main lesson, break for lunch and then move on to an artistic activity to complete the day. The artistic activities may include watercolor painting, music and handwork.
