Parent-Child Program

The Parent-Child Program provides Waldorf education and resources for parents and their young children from 18 months until 4 years of age. Classes meet one day a week In a light-filled classroom, where an intimate group of parents and children come together to explore the wonders of the first years of life.

Parents engage in activities like the making of simple crafts, while their children help them or play nearby. Children play with simple, natural toys and materials and are guided through the morning by the gentle rhythm of circle time, creative play, snack and story time.

Circle and story time reflect the world of nature and seasonal festivals. Circle time provides a rich learning experience through music and rhyme. Games and movement activities engage both large and fine motor coordination.

Stories and puppet plays nourish the child’s imagination and provide rich material for creative play. Each week during class a nutritious snack is prepared and served by the teachers.

The classes give parents an opportunity to discuss child development, parenting issues and Waldorf education with a Waldorf trained teacher. Sessions are offered in the fall, winter, spring, and summer. Admission is on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Chinese Parent-Child Program

Fridays from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. (Please see session dates above)

The Chinese Parent-Child Program has the same warm atmosphere and gentle rhythm as our traditional Parent-Child Program.  The teachers speak Chinese for the duration of the class and the children enjoy the all of the activities in the class expressed using the Chinese language including greeting, circle time, bread making and manners.  Parents do not need to speak Chinese to enroll in the class, but will be given phrases and songs to learn so that they can also participate in learning some of the language.

Parent-Child Afternoon Playgroup

*Please note this class is for older children who have completed a full cycle of Parent- Child classes, and children must be enrolled in both days to participate.  Parent-Child Play Group is held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The Parent-Child Play Group is a class for children who are able to play independently, with minimal adult intervention. The class will include free play and artistic activities for the children such as painting, sculpting, coloring, and felting and will also feature outdoor play. The parents will work on various handwork projects and will also participate in group discussions on parenting and classroom issues, and are invited to bring their own questions, while their children unfold in this gently structured environment.
